Solar Energy Site

Postby mark_hochman » Wed Jul 03, 2013 12:49 pm

So I can't remember if it was Matt or Steve that is building the solar energy site near by.
Well the reason Im asking is on my flight home from Ohio, shortly after passing over lake mojave I saw a really bright light in the middle of nowhere. From matching my pictures from the plane and searching Google maps I think I was looking at a solar energy plant called Ivanpah. It was the brightest thing I have ever seen.

Here is the pic...

Hi Mark : Blinding.... They are not so uncommon nowadays, with new ones being built. I havent seen the new one in Primm Nev. it is supposed to be HUGE...... There are a some couple closer to home, in fact isnt there a new one on 138 between Gorman & Palmdale ? Here is a pic of one near Kramer Junction I took a couple years ago.

Mark,

Not my company but that is either Ivanpah or Tonopah. These are huge 100 MW concentrated solar thermal power generation plants. They are breakthrough facilities and represent key milestones for the technology.
