Re: Help re-open The Old Ridge Route

Ah yes, I remember it well. The Old Ridge Route (ORR) closed due to some major wash-outs after some epic rainfall way back when. They fixed the road, but the ORR remained closed. For a decade after, they blamed the closure on Gas Company and it's less than speedy burial of large replacement gas mains along the route. 10 years, really?

Just before the Power House Fire, I had a conversation with a ranger of higher rank (he wore a gun on his belt) regarding the Old Ridge Route closure. He stated it's their desire to designate the entire area between the 5 freeway and San Francisquito canyon a wilderness area. That means no unauthorized motorized access whatsoever. The ORR falls in that area.

Then came the Power House fire, and along with it a wholesale closure of that same area, even though the fire affected maybe 5% of that total area. That closure was to end December 31, 2013

Then it was extended another year:

It'll be extended again for the same erosion issues whether we get rain or not. Then they will find another reason to keep it closed. It'll stay closed because the forest service doesn't want it open. The whole thing stinks.

Yep, does not seem right. Closing things down seems to be the way of the future. Our tax dollars at work
Victor, I have been doing some longer rides lately. Combination of street and dirt.

Mark: Those look like some very scenic rides. Your Beemer fits the bill perfectly for that. Maybe rain this weekend and get the dust down :D

Signed. Rode the ORR on a MTN bike a couple years ago before the powerhouse fire, fingers crossed that its opened up soon.
