NIGHT RIDE

Postby jonnyNITRO » Wed Jul 25, 2012 2:09 pm

Anyone interested in a night ride?
Gorman has some great trails to ride at night. And no one on the trails.
In the next few weeks as the weather heats up again, I want to do a night ride from 8 - 10 pm.

I would also consider Rowher Flats, Drinkwater, and Ruby Canyon as alternative locations... or string them all together for a longer ride.

If I had some aftermarket lighting, I'd be in.

That's what makes it so fun.

Just strap on a mechanics head lamp and go for it.

If you can ride the open road at night with your hi-beams, you can ride the trails.
You just go slower.

Looks like a weak response on the night ride, Nitro. How about a morning ride on Sat the 11th? I'd like to ride the trail up to Frazier Mt, out to Lockwood Valley and then loop back to Hungry Valley. With an early start it shouldn't be too warm or crowded. What do you think?

Come on guys. We're coming up on a Full moon.
Rowher Flats has a wide variety of trails to ride; some easier than others.

Or maybe the fire roads above Green Valley up to grass mountain. That's just fire road, you don't need a super powered headlight. And it overlooks the AV valley below and Tehachapi mountains.
Some hwy some dirt.

Okay, good. Starting to get some interest.
I was thinking we could start at Rowher Flats, head up to Green Valley and take the fire roads up to Grass Mountain.

Any ideas?

Sounds good, if we start around 1900 we'd have plenty of day light for the technical trails. I don't know Grass Mountain. Is that in the Sawmill area?

Evening everyone...

I just came in from a little test night ride...9mi from Castaic to San Fransicquito Cyn Rd via Charlie Cyn and the San Fran. Mt Motorway. This is a ride I've done a 100 times... It was still very tricky...I rode very slowly...never making it over 25mph and mostly under 20mph. I found that when your bike points down use High Beam...use low on tight corners and uphill. I almost ran off the road a couple times looking a critters running all over the place(a Skunk)...also saw what I assume was a Taranchula. It was smaller than others I've seen but still the size of a silver dollar! Several toads too...couldn't figure it out at first, until I had one in the headlight and stopped to check it out closer...the little guys hopping around had me stumped!!! Maybe they were out cuz of the rain today??? Anyways, I'll have to invest in one of those bazillion candle power helmet lights before I go on any real night rides. I want to see where I'm looking, not where my front tire is pointing...
