Saturday 1/15/2011 DS ride

Postby Aaron8 » Thu Jan 13, 2011 11:37 am

Hello friends- How about a fun ride in and around Santa Clarita and Angeles National Forest? Maybe the first DS ride of 2011 for some of you, no?

I can't tell you what route we will take, as each time I ride around these days another PERFECTLY LEGAL fireroad or Forest Route is closed for no apparent reason. It is what it is. I'm sure we can eke out a good time with what's still open.

I like to hit as much dirt as possible, but significant street miles are part and parcel to my DS rides. There's no getting around it.

Full knobbies (or trials tires, RiderX and Falcon) highly recommended. Ride difficulty, pace and duration to suit attendees. Never too far from gas station. Yada yada. Weather should pretty perfect.

Anyhoo, be at the Starbucks at 27984 Seco Canyon (Seco Canyon and Copperhill) in Santa Clarita in time enough to be ready to ride at 9AM.

That's right kickstands UP at 9:00 AM. Don't be late, girls.

Sounds like a good plan. I am fighting off a cold right now, hope I win & the bug loses. If I feel better I would like to join you.

Well I hope you can make it Victor. If you come, I'll minimize the pavement stretches.

Roger: It was a great day & a great ride, thanks for hosting it. We did 88 miles, Glad I was able to attend. The weather was phenomenal & the traction was as well. Surprised that no one else joined in the fun. Oh well.........

Thanks Victor so much for coming out yesterday :) Nice quick pace, perfect weather and great company! Victor went real easy on me but, as usual, I was burnt like toast after a while and Victor wanted more (sorry, buddy). I was sore after the ride. Got up from a short nap on the couch and immediately got double cramps in both my thighs. WTF? That's never happened before.

Here's that guy we met on his maiden voyage with his 2010 450EXC

BTW, I think there were more trucks, jeeps and buggies than bikes at Rowher

Like I said I had a great time and thanks again Dusty for coming out.

Roger: Nice pics, thanks for sharing. You guys missed out on a good ride, we ran a steady pace all day nothing over the top but a good clip. Honestly I had enough riding for the day but I could have ridden more. It is so far for me to travel 2.50 hours & about 160 miles round trip, that with the price of fuel I really want to go for the gusto & get all the riding in I can. As it was after a couple of stops in Valencia I didnt get home till about 5, washed the bike, put my stuff away & the next thing I know its 7. Would like to ride Monday but dont have the day off. Oh well. Roger thanks again for sponsoring the ride & I did have fun, always enjoy your routes & company.
We need to find that tight single track rocky switchback at Rohwer next time. 8) When I washed the bike I noticed that I bent my chain guide & it was rubbing on the sproket. I dont remember hitting anything but with all the rocks & ruts we encounterd who knows what did it.
