Santa Barbara Ride 6 Sep 09

Postby Connotaucarius » Tue Sep 01, 2009 8:16 pm

Hello all,

This may be a little far for you all out in Castaic but, I'm looking to do some exploring in the hills above Santa Barbara this Sunday. Anybody local to Santa Barbara or the Ventura area interested?

Check out this link

I can't make any promises about what we'll find. :excuseme: I've only been about about a mile past the trail head but, it looks like there might be a lot more back there.

Good Luck.

I would have liked to ride but have previous commitments. Let us know how it went & what you think of the area.

Had a great time. It was a beautiful day. The weather was nice, probably in the mid eighties with a nice cool breeze off the ocean. I'll post some pics if I can figure out how to do it.

Nice pictures, looks like a great area to ride. The cool breeze part sounds real nice. I have been slammed at work and was away for the weekend, just now catching up with the website posts.

I would be up for checking it out with you.

How many miles where you able to put in up there ? I am familiar with Camino Ciello & have been there on a street bike but didnt know there were off road parts except the MX track. It is pretty up there thats for sure. Too bad the Forest Service wont open up the millions of acres of PUBLIC land for us to use. We could ride all the way to Cuyama from there.

I've read some good reviews about Divide Peak elsewhere. And I'm curious to know which route you took to get to the trail head. Specifically, from the 192 (Foothill Road) in Santa Barbara, is Gibraltar Road open to the public to take you directly to E. Camino Cielo? Or must you go the longer route NW on Hwy 154 to W. Camino Cielo and back-track from there eastbound in order to get to E. Camino Cielo?

Mark,

Any time you're ready. It'll be a haul for you. Not unlike it is for me when I head out your way.

Dusty,

It was about 25 miles going one way. There's a lot more out there, we just wanted to make a short day of it. I put in a total of 130 miles that day.

We went on the Western most road. I'm looking to do some exploring down the Eastern most road. I'm sure there's a lot more out there. Who know's where it leads.

WingPilot,

The rout I took was 101 to 150, then a couple of side streets through Carpinteria to 192 and hooked up with Gibralter.

Connotaucarius:

Cool. 25 miles sounds good especially if it is dirt. I like single track best. I always have gone to the East side of 154. Will have to plan on going up there soon. Keep in touch. Thanks, Dusty
