Miller Jeep Trail & Gorman Night Ride

Postby jonnyNITRO » Sun Jul 10, 2011 7:29 pm

...and complete with video of the whole downhill section*** :)

Well, I got there at 5:33 PM and found 1 truck in the parking lot with a bike. It was Fubar.
So we put on all our gear as we waited for others to show but no one ever did. By 6:00 PM we took off and headed for Alamo Mountain. The park was pretty empty as we passed by campgrounds. Seemed kinda odd for such a nice day. It was 87 degrees and a slight breeze.
We rode up to the junction of Snowy Mountain Trail and continued on as I looked over the edge... some day. I think we only saw 2 vehicles on the trip up to the campsite on Alamo Mountain.

Once at the top, I turned on the video camera and began to record the complete downhill section. These trails change so much from season to season you're not really sure what to expect. But I figured it'd be cool to record anyway. The video is in 3 parts and we made a few stops on the way down to make sure we stayed together.

Definitely a lot of rocks. (Flashbacks)

It took us just 2 hours to get from the staging area to Mike's Pizza Company in Lake of the Woods. And no injuries or major crashes. I think we should have made a right at the first junction. oops!

I have some video of the uphill out of the river and then some more trails until we reached the creek in Lockwood.

Coming soon...

we had fun riding these sections.
There was of course another downhill. Not as bad as the first, but the gravel was loose and you mostly slide down the hill.

As we left for pizza I was beginning to get hungry, so I passed Fubar.

Food was great. And the rest was welcome.
So we headed back to Gorman and to the trucks. We dumped most of our gear and began the night ride. It was already dark when we reached the trucks so we had to use flashlights to get around camp. Off we went but the video doesn't show much. guess the camera doesn't have LowLux capabilities for night filming. (It wasn't quite that bad)

Anyway, we had fun. Terry hit the wall early on (metaphorically). I could tell he was exhausted. He's usually behind me but he was waaaayyyy back there. After we did Flying W, Backbone, Vic's Cat Trail, Cow and Mesa, we decided to call it quits early 11:00 PM and head back to the trucks.
The day was good. We had a lot of fun and gained some valuable experience. And no one got hurt.

Hope you enjoyed the videos.
Next time we need to get more bikes out there. :professor:

I buy my maps online and at Sports Chalet. (Tom Harrison, National Geographic Maps) But I think that map is from an organization for California trials. Can't remember the name. I'll look it up when I get home. :excuseme:
