Pffft. You're soooo lucky the batteries in my camera were dead last weekend.

this sounds like a great trip, is there still room for one more? I'm thinking that i might be able to go, but how are you guys carrying all of your stuff?

thanks, Jon
Jon,
Sure hope you can make it. I rode to DV from the house in March and decided to try to slim things down a bit on that trip. (no panniers) I've over done it in the past and realize that you can pack so well that you cant find anything. :- I did bring a gas can, as one of the stretches between fuel was 225+ miles.
Here is a quick report from that venture. In one of the pics you can see the http://www.Giantloopmoto.com panniers on the KTM to the left. I prefer that setup. Although pricey...very very nice.

So no more route suggestions? I have plenty more single track but must keep a few surprises!

It sure would be nice if the temp picks up a few digits before next weekend. I guess I'll just wait till last minute to decide what to pack (Warm or cool).
Going to be fun no matter what.

Well, after two long conversations with the USFS in the last two weeks - Sorry to say that access ain't looking good. :excuseme:

Both the Kernville and Mountain View Ranger Stations advised me that the Piute Road and Saddle Springs Road are closed on the south end of our route, and the Highway up in to the big trees is also closed on the north end of our route. :(

They said that the snow was especially stubborn to melt this spring due to cold temps. And added that they haven't had a chance to get much equipment up there to either fix roads or maintain the facilities. I asked them if they thought the roads might be open by next weekend and their response was, "Don't count on it". Booooooo!

I do recall that we did our trip in July or August last time so we'll probably have to postpone til then for best results. Darn! :banghead:

Okay. I'm back.
Let's plan a different trip, or maybe just do a one day exploration trip like the one over the Tehachappi pass.
How about Big Bear?
Or wait till later... I guess.

I even started packing my bike to see how it will all fit.

Sure glad we had up front knowledge of the situation (thanks Eric). Would have been a bummer to find out first hand that the trails/roads were closed. That would have put a huge damper on the ride. The postponement will no doubt work out better in the end, Hopefully it wont interfere with any other obligations. Lookin forward to the ride. I have all my stuff ready. Will be a cool adventure into the mountains.

How about we wait until the FS says everything is open on the route? Don't want to wait until August for this one. I suggest calling them maybe 2 weeks from now and see what's going on.

Thanks for the re-con Falcon! :-o

Per NOAA it looks like the weather in Kernville is going to get up in to the 90's and Ponderosa will even see 60-70's over the coming week(s) - I think things will change quickly up there. I hope to get something going in 2-3 weeks w/the USFS's blessing... we'll see. I like the adventure aspect of making it up as we go along, but we need to get some pretty good access to make this trip a go-go. I'm ready!! :ride:

Nitro - You got quite the "nomad" set-up there!

Fubar - No camera for you!

Mark - Start makin' plans...

Yeah, I'm looking to trim it down a bit more. Feels a bit like elephant sitting behind me.

Then again, I can go the other direction. If I throw on a fishing pole and my rifle, I can gather my own food too. :)

Why don't we shoot for the 23rd - 25th of this month? It's gotta be warm enough now to have those roads open.
