I am definitely interested in a ride beginning of September, any ideas where you'd like to go? Maybe somewhere in the high desert? Or more exploration in the Piutes? Even a trip to the Trona area (i.e. Darwin) might be fun. How 'bout East Mojave?

I think even an overnighter would be a good "fix".

That could be a fun route. I thought about it a bit more and there is also Carrizo Plain - If you'd like something closer. Here is a great DS site for that area:

http://homepage.mac.com/wbunning/carrizods/carrizo.html

Let me know, I can start putting a plan together. :ride:

Any one else interested?

I've been wanting to do this with you all but, it always seems that I'm on the road when you guys are planning to go. :banghead:

Depending on when you plan to go, I'm in.

Hey Conno-

Glad to hear you might be able to make this one! :ride:

Looking at the exotic destinations we've listed above, any preferences? Any other spots that you'd be interested in? Sounds like Mark may be in to a Trona run. Trona with Lippencott and Darwin might be a lot of fun.

I have to say... I'm open to any of them.

As far as dates - I'm available the weekend of September 1/2 or 8/9 - how about you guys?

Any other takers? Calvin? Shahin? Bill? Dan? Mike? Chris? :excuseme:

By the way Mark - really diggin' the new look your website is sporting, Good Job! :-o

Thanks Eric, I kind of like the green theme. Any weekend is good for me at this point. Do we want to add either a Friday or a Monday? I'm not real familiar with that area :excuseme: so I will leave it up to you to choose :professor: .

I think Carrizo could easily be done in two days. It would be a nice trip.

For the Trona gig - I think 3 days would be better for that. A Friday or a Monday would work for me. My thought is to make it up into Wildrose the first night for camp (high elevation = cool) and then drop down through Lippencott Canyon the next day - through DV and up into Darwin the following day?

These are REALLY preliminary plans, some thoughts on it?

Good deal, Carrizo Plain it is. :)

Probably for the better, the temps in Trona and DV looked pretty brutal. Temps in Carrizo are forecasted for low/mid 80's per Intellicast.

For those of you that haven't been there Carrizo Plain is pretty amazing. There is a visitors center. And though it may look like a wasteland to some, there are some neat things to see around the valley. It is one of my favorite places in central/southern California. Probably because of the solitude out there.

A majority is BLM land so camping is a lot like, "...I'll just park it over here". But there are also established camps too.

I was able to do most areas on my V-strom so that will give folks an idea of level of difficulty (easy) but there are some more challenging single track and old ranch roads (that I didn't do) - which are more suited for the DS.

We could also visit Ballinger OHV area which is nearby - or look into Tinta Trail up to Cuyama Peak.

Well the next big question - what weekend works best?

Carrizo Plain sounds good.

I can meet you all at Taft or something since Hwy 33 is the most direct route out there for me. Only problem is Hwy 33 may still be closed due to the fire. I'll keep an eye on it.

Hey Dude - Sorry for the delay... I got your PM and I'll email you tonight.

Missed you on Rincon Shortcut yesterday, and that was in your backyard! Any chance you'll join us for the Carrizo Plain overnighter?
